***LIBERALS READ THIS***

The graphics on this post make it look like this is a Pro-McCain post.  It is not.  If you go in with that bias you'll miss the whole point (which would be a shame).  So please be advised.

Today I endeavor to make a post that will constitute one of the most impressive juggling acts that I've ever attempted.  I have to talk about politics without taking a side, admonish a huge portion of the Internet while not insulting them and criticize Veronica Bellmont without inspiring a bunch of pitch fork wielding geeks to come to my home and kill me.

(For the record, I actually like Veronica Bellmont, just not in this case)

Anyway, I don't think I'm exaggerating when I say Danger lurks around every corner.   With that exciting intro out of the way...lets get started!

john-mccain-barack-obamaAs almost everyone knows most folks in the Tech Blogosphere are liberal.  A fact I don't have a problem with.  Some are not, a fact I also don't have a problem.

As I've said before, we here at TomsTechBlog (*cough*me*cough*) don't take political sides.  We support your right to make whatever choice you want as long as it's an informed one.

That said I have to dive in a little close to the line here to make a very important point in regards to this video post by Veronica Bellmont entitled "I have something in common with McCain?!".  The insinuation of course is that it is shocking she'd have anything in common with that bad (or at least extremely wrong) Republican man running for President.

This sentiment is echoed in her comments with people saying things like...

hah! let's hope that's the only thing...

and...

Nice! A commonality you don't have to be ashamed of :D

Look, I again support everyone's right to support whomever they want.

But John McCain is the most liberal Republican that has or probably ever will run for  McCrossPresident.  The man's crossed the aisle so many times they have big yellow signs in the Senate chamber that say "McCain Xing" just so he won't get run over.  If you, as a liberal, can't at least say "This isn't a bad guy" or "I have a lot in common with him but I have more in common with Obama" than with all due respect you are a mindless drone and that's not something you should want to be.

Being a mindless drone is never good.  Here at TomsTechBlog we support your right to prefer which ever candidate you want, we do not support your right to be a mindless drone.

Pay attention here, this is important.  People who can't see what they have in common with those who oppose them are what we call "simple minded."  It means your brain can't grasp nuance so you instead choose to paint the whole world as black and white so your meager intellect can grasp it.

Does that sound like a description you want to fit?  I would hope not.

Now this is usually the point where certain people start to brand me a "Right Winger" regardless of my actual politics.  To those people I'd point out I have a pretty high profile supporter in this area...

                     Obam

That, by the way, is why this is so maddening to me.  Both these men have not only committed themselves to a clean campaign but have actually (for the most part) stuck to that promise.  The idea that the voters, who always claim to want clean campaigns, are now going to drag this into the mud is a little sickening in my opinion.

Addendum: Though I have no chance of convincing some people I feel the need to at least attempt one more time to make the point that this is not a pro-McCain post.  Circumstances just happen to make him the perfect example.  Let me explain...

George Bush is a right wing President and people aren't happy with him.  This pushes the whole field to the left.  So the Republicans nominated a centrist while the Democrats nominated someone far left.  So McCain is the perfect example because he's as left a Republican Candidate as you'll probably ever see.

If there was an election between George Bush and Joe Libermann and the Republicans' were bashing Libermann I'd be making the same point in a Democrat's favor (and yes, he's still a Democrat no matter what anyone says).
